The other Melbourne
The Melbourne area shoreline is developed with condos and single-family homes. A few public beach parks exist, such as Bonsteel Park, Juan Ponce de Leon Landing, Coconut Point Park, and James Nance Park. However, many of the public beach access points are hard to find -- mere slivers of land discreetly nestled in between private buildings.
“I would say the parks in Melbourne Beach (Spessard Holland North and South, Coconut Point, Ponce de Leon, Bonsteel) are treasures because they are always much less crowded than beach parks to the north [Central Brevard],” said Tom Bartosek of the Space Coast Office of Tourism. “I think visitors like to get away from crowds and think that the beach is ‘theirs’ for the time they spend there.”
